about us

Our Aim

Queen Charlotte Sound is the inspiration for R & R Cruises.  We have the privilege of being able to cruise  a waterway that is unpolluted, sheltered, vast, uniquely beautiful, rich in history and wild life and still relatively undiscovered.  Our aim is to share, in an exclusive setting, a taste of what this Sound has to offer.  How much or how little you want to see and do is totally respected – in today’s busy world some people need ‘Relaxation’, while others thrive on ‘Recreation’.

The Skipper
Gordon Low (Gordy)

Gordon is passionate about boating and aviation, a mix with many overlaps. He has been heavily involved in both industries for over 30 years. His infectious congeniality and genuine interest in others makes for a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

"Lady Karen"

A classic design, solidly constructed by Oliver & Gilpin, Tauranga in NZ Kauri as a game fishing vessel and launched in1957. Twin Ford diesels provide added safety and a leisurely cruise speed of 8 knots. The boat is maintained to the high standard required by New Zealand’s Maritime Safety Authority.  Seakindly and stable, Lady Karen is deceptively roomy and her timber interior gives a warm inviting ambience. Fully opening saloon doors lead into a generous cockpit area giving good indoor/outdoor flow. Spend some time on her, you will see why we love her!!

Hi Gordon.  Just reflecting on our visit to South Island whilst sorting a few photos.  Many thanks for a very enjoyable and memorable excursion out on Queen Charlotte Sound: the highlight of our visit!
Hopefully we'll get over there again some day and have time to do it all again...
Best wishes and our grateful thanks,

Garth, Jan, Cathy and Tona (Australia)

Thank you so much Gordon. We had a great time and one of the week's highlights was the afternoon that we spent on the lovely Lady Karen with you. We will definitely contact you when we return. Not sure when that will be but I do hope it is sooner than later as we just loved Queen Charlotte Sound and The Bay of Many Coves. Thank you for your kind hospitality.

Sandy and Tory (Australia)

Our visit to the Bay of Many Coves resort was wonderful………. BY the way, if you have an opportunity, take the R&R cruise with Gordon on his boat the Lady Karen. You can charter it for a half day---it's a terrific way to see the sounds and you could not find a more accommodating, lovely guide.

Fantastic location right on the Marlborough Sounds, only accessible by boat and that makes it unique for a Singaporean like me! Good looking modern rooms, spacious with a separate sitting area…………………………
We did a half day trip out on the Lady Karen which was arranged by the hotel and the boat is skippered by a chap called Gordon Low. He was very hospitable and warm and we saw a whole pod of dolphins (like 30 of them or something) and they swam with the boat whic was fantastic and we managed to catch our own lunch as well. I would certainly recommend a trip out on the Lady Karen, Gordon was an excellent 'host'!
